Lake Colby
Lake Colby is one of the most frequented -- and reliable -- ice fishing locations in and around Saranac Lake. It is easy to get to, has reliable ice, and offers plenty of room to spread out away from other anglers.
How to get there
From downtown Saranac Lake, take Route 86 toward Paul Smiths. Public parking for Lake Colby is available at the boat launch across the Adirondack Medical Center.
Ice fishing
Lake Colby is home to one of the Adirondacks’ largest ice fishing tournaments each winter, and for good reason. Landlocked salmon call the lake home, as do rainbow and brown trout, and warm-water species like largemouth and smallmouth bass and panfish can also be caught. On any given day, there are anglers out on the ice, but at nearly 300 acres, there is plenty of room for everyone.
